How do you feel about companies using women as well as sex like this to promote themselves?
Are people getting used to commercials that sell sex rather than the actual product?
Do you agree with this method of promotion?
It's unnatural...or is it?
Most of us have been raised to think in a heterosexual manner. Being told that it is the only way for one to express oneself, in terms of love and sexuality. Of course, when we get older and are are more educated, we learn otherwise. Later, we are told that homosexuality is wrong, unnatural and harmful. If you take a look at nature, you will see that it is natural. Animals all around us practice homosexual behavior. It is't new, human's did not introduce this, animals did.
Rats, elephants, deer, baboons, and dolphins are just a few examples. Dolphins mate for life, and yes, male dolphins do the same. Some birds parent their young with two males and one female. Some lion cubs have only lionesses guarding and raising them.
Scientists actually discovered this behavior a long time ago, but decided to disregard it because they though that heterosexuality was dominant and because they (the scientists) thought "it improved their reproductive success".
Watch this video and tell me what to think:
the first link is part one and the second is part 3. Keep watching :)

So if we see that there is homosexual behavior in the animal kingdom, why do we look at it in such a dim light? Why do some of us continue to refer to it as unnatural?
How do you feel about what you have seen?
Sorry for the adult content! It's educational, so its all good :)
Gender sterotype in Commercial "Beers vs Heels"
There are a lot of gender stereotypes shown in TV, Commercial, and actually everywhere. This Commercial clearly shows the Gender Sterotype for both men and women.
*Gender sterotype are general beleifs about sex-linked traits (collections of psychological characteristic and behaviors characterizing men and women)
Please watch this video and discuss about this following questions
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1ZZreXEqSY&feature=youtube_gdata_player
1) What would your initial feelings/reactions if it was the men squeal over the shoes and the women cheer for the beer?
2)Will children growing up think that if they do not consume alcohol they are not "manly" and if girls do not like clothes and make up, they are not "feminine"?
3)If young children are exposed to such commercials portraying men and women in this way, do you believe they would grow up with the association that women are linked with appearance and men with drink related?
Gender Dominance
1) Do you think males will always be looked upon as being more dominant?

Women Seen as Housewives

Many shows have portrayed women being as a housewife. In this show The Flintstones Fred is being lazy and is just reading his newspaper whereas Wilma is vacuuming, this is basically what a typical housewife is portrayed in many shows being the housewife and just cleaning. Also, in the show The Simpson Homer is being lazy on the couch and is creating more mess by dropping his food. If we see Bart he's chasing his dog which can cause much furniture to fall and make things out of order, and as we see Marge she’s vacuuming. Many media shows portray a whole family but the women are the ones who are seen as the housewife, the one that cleans.
Today, across the globe that has changed families help one another to get things done faster so they can enjoy time with each other rather than the mom being the one that is always cleaning. Also, women have started to go to work while men can be the ones who can look after the children and clean the house. But as many still do see a typical family as the women being the housewife, taking care of the children whereas the men are the ones who are expected to have a job and deal with the financial matters.
This video shows that a father can take care of their children even if the wife is at work. By a father spending time with their children can have a great impact rather than the mother always helping them with little homework or cheerleading as shown in this video.
Questions
1. Do you think that women are still seen as a housewife?
2. Do you think that both parents can do something equally the same? Why?
3. What do you think about the video?
It'll blow your mind away!

Hi class! So I'm sure that you have already taken a look at this advertisement. And I'm also sure that you laughed. I think that throughout all different media texts, women are basically used and shown as objects. I mean, look at this ad and tell me it does not look sexual, because in fact, it does. What is the message that is trying to be implied here? This advertisement would get many hits just because there is a hot woman in it with her mouth open towards a chunk of meat. And I know what you all are thinking, so why do you think that they chose to advertise this product in this way? And why is it always women that are shown in any kind of ads as sex symbols? In this particular ad, is it really necessary to say "It'll blow your mind away"?
I think that women are always taken advantage of when it comes to media advertising. However, women bring it upon themselves. If they are the ones who are doing such sexual poses etc. then why should we feel sorry for them when they complain how men treat them? Does not make sense. This ad, I'm sure was not meant to be insulting or anything of that nature however, it does kind of creep me out but I think it's purpose is to catch attention and make people laugh.
Some more questions to discuss:
What do you guys think of this ad?
Why are women always associated with sexual things?
Do you think that this is a good method of advertising?

SHE CAN DO IT BETTER !!

Although women have been give all the rights, freedom and opportunities to prove themselves to the world, why is that they are still seen as the minorities? If a situation a man loses his job, he would feel embarrassed because he is considered to support the family or be the provider of the family. But if a woman loses her job it won’t make any differences within the family, as they are not considered as the provider. Women are still seen as unworthy within society. Women have been proving themselves in each field of study or jobs and are the same level as men; most women are much higher than men. Women are constantly underestimated that they cannot achieve that same position in a male dominant society. They cannot do the harder physical work because of their gender but at the same time are judged many times if they choose to stay-at-home mom. What is wrong with staying at home and take care of our children? I think it is one of the hardest jobs ever!
Women are rising not only in education level but at sport level too.
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/85865-she-can-do-anything-he-can-do-better
I am really amaze by this articles as it a great example to show that women are not only mentally strong but are physically too. Whenever we hear the word “sports” the very first image that it creates in our minds is group of men, not women. Men believe that females are not physically strong enough because of their gender, which is somewhat true as males have certain hormones that provide them with more physically strong characteristics. This by no means proves that women are not capable of hard physical work. There are many women seen working at places where lot of hard labor work is required.
In the articles it says that even though Candace Parker’s has amazing success it did not get the attention it deserves. Is it because a woman has achieved it? Would it be so wrong for women to hold a higher position in any field than a man?
Also in the articles it state that Parker contract is worth less than Lebron James even though she has accomplished more than him. Why is the society so conflicted that women aren’t worthy enough of well-paying jobs?
I just hope that in near future society becomes more open-minded so both the genders are seen equal in the eyes of each other.
Thank You
OMG, It's a midget!
A midget is a person who is extremely short. They usually suffer through a health condition called “dwarfism”. Another name for them is also a ‘dwarf’ which is not a very nice word to call them. Both midget and dwarf are referred to as derogatory words. Let’s call this word “M” because I do not like using it.
So, how many of you have seen an M in your life? I want to know what you’re first reaction was. Was it “OMG”, “ha-ha”, “I feel sorry”, or anything else?
M’s are always made fun of and laughed at because their height is very petite. If we focus our views towards the media, they usually appear in a comic role because their appearance is seen to be humorous (which is weird, don’t you think?). In real life, they work in a circus as jokers or in a comic role. They face discrimination because of their appearance. It is hard for them to find a job or work in a workplace without being made fun of. They are as normal and intelligent as any human being, so why them?
Think about this next time you call a short person a “midget” :)
Here’s a link to the video which I found very interesting about someone. The sudden reaction which the recorder went through after noticing the person’s physical struggle is a sad sight to watch.. Video!
- Why do you think people laugh at them only because of their miniature appearance?
- Do you think media has a role in the way you think about M’s?
- Are they faced in the same manner of discrimination which homosexual’s face? Is it worse? Is it less?
- What do you think about the video?
Its a girl !!!
Hi Fellow classmates,
There are many crimes that are taking place in our society and one of them is female infanticide. Female infanticide is the act of killing a female infant. This blog will be focusing on female infanticide happening in India.
India is a patriarchal society in which a cultural bias against women has contributed to frequent cases of female infanticide, particularly in poor and rural areas. Some issues that lead to female infanticide are lack of education, traditions, poverty, cultural beliefs, dowry abuse, neglecting of young females and sexism. This is also because women are considered to be more "polluted" than the men of their castes because of menstruation and childbirth, which are considered to be dirty and "polluting".
The sad part is that killing a female infant is not considered a crime or no one is punished for doing such an act. Dowry is the payment, in the form of money, land or household items, given to a bride by the bride’s family so she could establish a home for her new family. Dowry is one of the major causes that lead to female infanticide. Most of the pregnant females turn to sex-selective abortion so that they don’t have a girl child. Fortunately, the government has passed laws on dowry marriage and sex-selective abortion.
Questions:
Do you think that the factors that lead to female infanticide can lead to such a crime?
Why does the government not pass out laws that are against this?
Why are having boys not look down upon? Is this because men have always dominated women?
What do you think about this cruel act?
Why is it difficult for females to survive in conditions like these?
Thank you for reading this!
Looking forward to your responses!!

Can GENDER EQUALITY ever exist?

Ever since the start of human civilization, the gender role has been created everywhere and men dominated women for a really long time. Gradually women stood up and started fighting for their equal right. But no matter how much they try men are still dominating the society; and all the women across the world are not given equality. But for this blog the topic is not about domination. Rather it’s about what exactly women want? Do women really want to be treated as equal to men?
If they do want to be treated equally as men, then would it be insult for women if men opened the door or pulled chair for them?
And if they do want the chair to be pulled for them or the doors to be opened for them; wouldn’t that be against gender equality?
Looking forward to your insights!
Is it for a boy or is it for a girl????
Is it for a boy or is it for a girl???? At a very young age, we develop gender stereotypes from advertisements. Have you ever watched Nickelodeon, Teletoon or YTV? If you have, then you have seen the commercials that give children gender stereotypical thoughts. For examples: Girls-Barbie and ken, Boys- Hot wheels, Girls-Little mommy, Boys-water guns. Most children know what is for girls and what is for boys because in the advertisements they see everyday in their everyday life represents boys with blue cars, monster trucks and Girls are represented with Barbie, pink clothes, and little mommy dolls. Gender stereotypes are presented to kids at a very young age and we grow up with what was presented to us.

Why Change Marriage?
Hi class
We all know that homosexual individuals face a lot of struggle, to purse their means of happiness. They are struggling to achieve their rights and equality by legalizing same-sex marriages and have succeeded in some countries. Do you think that homosexual couples should be allowed to get married legally?
Well, in my opinion Homosexual couples should be given the same rights as marriage, but it shouldn't be called marriage. They would get the benefits of marriage, but the only difference is, that it's not called marriage. Marriage is a scared bond between a man and a women, and shouldn't be redefined to meet other people's standards.
Homosexuality shouldn't be taken to the extreme of, as some might say "kill them all." And also shouldn't be taken to the other extreme of, legalizing marriage. Denying the rights and equality of any individual regardless of religion, race, sex, sexual orientation and etc is wrong. Giving them equal rights and letting them purse their happiness, but calling them "civil union," instead of marriage is right.
Also with the legalization of homosexual marriage, it would affect children in a unnatural way. Children will be confused about what marriage is. If you go up to a child and ask him "whats marriage?" Guaranteed the child would think about a man and a woman first, and also would think about his parents. The reason the child thinks like that, is because it's the natural and normal way of understanding marriage. Crossing those boundaries of understanding that they have is wrong.
Watch the following video:
Question for discussion
Should homosexual couples get married or be called by another name? Is there any wrong in giving equal rights, but calling it different? Are children being affected by same-sex marriages in a negative way? If marriage was legalized do you think it should be taught to young children?
